Part of a Senacyt (Panama) funded team, we completed work looking at behavioral differences in a subspecies of the golden-collared manakin (Manacus vitellinus amitinus) endemic to Escudo de Veraguas Island (Panama).
The manakins on the island are larger in size (~ 30% larger than mainland individuals) and show differences in vocal characteristics and display behavior. Below is a sonogram showing the difference in the "cheepoo" call of males in the Gamboa (mainland) and Escudo populations. Updates coming soon with final results...
